In a case of new construction of a house or commercial building, an arborist may help out, or perform a special role in the landscaping and planting of new trees and plants. He may also provide ways to preserve the existence of the original plants, shrubbery and trees in which a large part of arboriculture and its main workings function. One has to keep in mind that an arborist, even a highly trained and experienced one, may also be subject to the strains of common labour. Hands on work such as tree trimming and climbing to significant heights may also be part of this job. But as a small business it most certainly has its advantages especially to the liking of working seasonally, and or appointing your own hours as you see fit to do so. You should also be aware of the fact that most tree trimmers, arborists and horticulture specialists need to be licensed for the application of pesticides and other chemicals. As a small business owner working as an arborist, training in the field of arboriculture is not extensive, as a few years of community college and vocational school should suffice. A background in landscaping working for someone else is a good way to get started and gain some knowledge. Qualifications of helpers or labourers may vary, but most companies or contractors are usually willing to train eager job candidates that demonstrate a willingness to learn. A commercial truck license of the D-Z rating is a definite asset when applying for this type of work.
