Contact Information - Private Phone Numbers
After receiving a less than cordial and to the point inquiry from my online contact information form, I decided to make a point about it. I want to relate to people and help them understand why there is an absence of phone numbers on many contact forms and websites. This topic of discussion is specifically designed to include small and possibly even medium sized home-based business, and online marketers who sell products or services worldwide.
The posting of my phone number on the World Wide Web would be a major mistake and problematic for me. And as I am a small-scale business entity, I use my URL for contact information and selling purposes. People in business conversely have, and always will, be victims of solicitation, or worse yet, the brunt of lunatic behaviour. Home job suppliers and program operators are nowhere near exempt, and probably even more susceptible to online counter spamming and vendetta related activity or retaliation.
The email I received was short enough and very much to the point. The following is a small excerpt and goes on as follows and as quoted.
“I hate when any online jobs do not provide me with a phone number to contact them at. This tells me that the online job is a Big Scam!”
The above statement was directed at me, was simply stated in a direct manner, and to the point. This email was also sent to me I must conclude, because I only provided email contact information, and not a phone number. But one must realize the ramifications of supplying such personal information. Not everyone is in the market for what a website publisher has to sell or offer, many site visitors are in it for themselves! Let me explain…
As a provider of work from home job opportunities, this could cut fairly deep. But in my case, it did not. When considering the fact that I offer work from home job opportunities internationally as well, makes way for a scenario that could see myself receiving any number of job related calls from anywhere around the world, and at any hour of the day or night. I also receive a constant bombardment of unrelated solicitation through my Websites contact form from many a sales geek. People who just want to give me their sales spiel. Nobody needs this crap, and this is the no phone number reasoning.
Sales people, or clog-heads never seem to give up in their relentless sales pitches and offerings that have done most of us some type of stressful damage at some point. It is by far a pain in the backside to talk to these Geek’s, and this is also why I do not display my phone number on the form as part of my contact information. Once someone has your number, you could be next inline as his or her target for fun or otherwise. So you see this scenario works both ways.
Note Many big companies make a point of providing a contact number in which to call. These are also not personal home phone numbers. Most also have around the clock operators standing by to sell you their stuff. Anyone ever felt scammed by him or her? And if so, you really need to discern between what is a valid home based business offering, or a scam. Telephone sales may be optional, but the contact form is a vital resource for the rest of us.
I did not get into Internet marketing to be bombarded by Internet scammers that are not visiting my website to engage with my offerings. A small percentage of my visitors want to know who I am for spamming purposes, and to retrieve my personal information for their own financial gain. I also receive constant BS from a whole platitude of offline telephone telemarketers. My phone number because of this is also unlisted in the phone directory as well. I have nothing to hide except my personal phone number. I can always be reached through email or contact information Web form.
