Understanding Conversion Rates Part 1

Conversion rates are a problem without a doubt, and one of the most important key elements you have to watch. That is if you want to experience any kind of success with your Web based business. Depending on the nature of your home business, and the product and or service you may offer, a reasonable rate of conversion is the key to online profits.

Reasonable conversion rates for higher priced items or services often fall within the 2-3% range. You can expect to see higher conversions with more popular items and less expensive goods. But if your overall problem is a lack of traffic, you need to cure that before anything else. Low traffic = low sales volume, that is a simple equation, but there are indeed many options and marketing methods you may try.

If you have good traffic coming to your Website (total visitors) and your conversion rate is surprisingly low, you have some real problems in which to address. Are your conversion rate problems associated with your target audience? Or is it more related to your Website in general? If you have a decent amount of traffic coming to your Site day after day, and you have a very narrow to none conversion factor, chances are you are selling the wrong thing to the wrong audience, (something none of your visitors want.) Or, you just have a poorly built, hard to navigate Web-presence. Something we all see too often.

Keywords can also play a very important role in what your prospects first see when entering your site, and can convey a sense of want when placed properly. A good headline is without a doubt a key ingredient for attracting the interests of prospects, and getting visitors to at least read your Site offers. Converting visitors into buyers is easier when you understand what drives people into buying. Many Site owners have large amounts of traffic, and have no idea what to do with it. Your keywords and text need to draw your target market in, and convert them into buyers.

So you may want to factor in one of two things, which by now should seem kind of obvious if you have any business sense at all. Now either your Site just really sucks, and has no appeal what so-ever, or your targeting is way out of line in relevance to your choice of product or service. Targeting everyone over the age of 18 who use a computer is not a well-targeted audience for most online marketers, unless you are selling or advertising lotteries, get rich programs, or even gambling.
