Traditionally people try conducting a job search using the typical methods of online ad columns and vacancies. Some even register with a recruitment agency or a job site in order to find work or online employment. But in our quest of finding work, be it online or off, there are better ways of going about it and avoiding the traditional methods that most people use, and do not necessarily work. Serious job hunting will involve exhaustive work on the part of the prospective employee. Recruitment agencies will only help you get a job they think you may want, or are typically suited for, or what is readily available. If you expect to get the job you really want or think you deserve, try looking at new methods that may produce much greater results. Recruitment agencies may serve a valid purpose, but do they really deliver in terms of personalized client service. The more effective approach will involve a little more work and effort. How Are You Conducting Your Job Search? You may want to start at taking a look at what it is you are doing now, or previously have done for a living. By doing this, one can gain an enhanced perspective by taking into consideration the actual duties or routines performed, as opposed to an actual title or label. This will also help in keeping you from putting yourself into too narrow of a category, and free up other alternatives orderivatives associated with past working experience. Keep in mind however that a prospective employer will want someone with relative work experience that is relevant to the applied for position. Start thinking about not only what you are good at, or accomplished at doing, but also your motivational properties and what it is you enjoy. If you liked or still like your current job but want to move on to something similar because of personal matters, knowing this will help out tremendously. You may want to consider other employers in direct or indirect competition with your previous company or organization. This is what an accomplished recruitment firm would probably do for you anyway, so you can skip the cost and go about this part of the job search on your own. Have you ever heard the term that the best jobs are the unadvertised ones? If you want to take the route or way of working for someone else or an organization in close relationship in regards to your previous work, you may want to try the following. Make a list of companies you think need your skills and expertise, and write them down along with their phone number. Call these companies and ask for the person in charge of hiring, which is probably a department head. You do not need to speak with them directly at this point unless they are willing to do so. At the very least, you will want to obtain their contact information so you can write or email them. Contacting employers or office managers on your own without an agency will show people looking to hire that you have initiative. This is important to most companies looking for the right people, and even ones who are not at the present time. So remember that even if there are no current positions available at your company of preference, do not write them off or remove them from the list. Your job search may take a little more time than expected, and follow-ups are important because they show you are persistent and eager to work. So keep your list and keep checking back at least once a month. Selling yourself and your abilities as a potential job candidate will be the major battle in finding a good job that you will want to build a long-term career from. Always be polite but firm in your conversations with any employer you wish to work for. Make sure you have a list of questions in front of you if you when calling them on the phone that pertain to specific job related duties in which you excel at. But do not lie or make false claims that you cannot back-up or fulfill if you do get the job. Getting fired for incompetence will not look good when you then have to look for another job, and they do a background check with your prior firm or company.
