New Technology / Online Business Website Advancements

Like time itself, new technology is always in a state of evolution and advancing ever forward, and never standing still. As more people switch to high-speed Internet connections and broadband, access with slower connections feel compromised and out of date. So may the work from home business owner that tries to keep up to date with new technology and advancements.

Anyone who frequents the Internet highway on a regular basis is probably privy to new age gimmicks such as “rich media” and other flash or flashy presentations used by big companies and those who have learned how to use them. Designed to catch your attention, they do not always work. And it is still a funny thing, no strike that, hilarious to see webmasters and ad producer’s use pop ups, and pop unders. If you do not know what a pop under or up is, it is the annoying second chance at getting your attention when you visit a website.

As I spend more time on the web, I find that flash presentations have little to offer in the way of providing information. This is not true of all of them, but most are designed to be fun to watch and related to your search, or the theme of the website you are visiting. But some rich media and flash presentations have nothing to do with what you are looking for, and I consider it a waste of time anyway. I still enjoy just reading new information handed to me through easy to read text.

Rich media is part of a new technology that certainly has its place with certain websites, running from ads that you find practically everywhere while surfing. They are purposely distracting and even sometimes annoying. The old technology however is cheaper to use and implement, simple text works just fine for most of us, and loaded faster on browsers. But this may also depend on your target market. Rich media and video may be more entertaining, but is it as informative and effective as simple text. This all comes down to whether it is really worth the cost and effective as a promotional tool.

One way of getting a free video presentation for yourself is to join You Tube, and upload your own video. A web camera is all you need for a simple and informative video that you can make in minutes, and have live only seconds afterward. Most modern laptops these days come equipped with a web camera that makes it easy for anyone to share their home business or online venture with a few clicks. Although limited in it’s filming functions a web-cam can serve you well. You can then link to your video from your website with a descriptive link. This is great for adding a new dimension or a visual aid to your selling.

Home-based business is never a stranger to new technological outbreaks and advancements. It actually thrives on the possibilities of such and is even at time a victim of the onslaught of its own competition. The playing field is reserved for the online marketers and affiliates who are devoted to making a serious living at taking out the competition at all costs. But as mistakes are made with anyone who does not pay attention to reality, the tried and true always seem to be able to pay the meal ticket.
