Social Networking

Social networking probably began around 1995 with a Website called classmates.com, which could enable old classmates to connect to one another. This created a great environment for registered users who wanted to find long lost elementary school friends, college roommates, and even private school friends. This Website continues to sustain a thriving online community where people can post profiles and search for their friends. Does this all sound way too familiar?

Soon after the inception of classmates.com came dozens of other similar Sites providing basic options for searching profiles, sending messages, and posting on message boards. The flame was later fueled with an array of publishers looking to further spark this popular network craze, which many people, both young and older use on a daily basis. The viral aspects and predictable nature of social networks instantly became a hit with website publishing geeks worldwide. And for a collect few, it paid off most handsomely!

By the year 2005 there were literally hundreds of social networking sites on the World Wide Web, generating topics related to most anything you could possibly imagine. With any niche from general to specific, there is something of value for almost every person on the planet. Practically any one of these sites are free to join for people willing to go through the signup process, and set up their profile. But what could this mean to someone who wants to display his or her business to a new traffic source, or reveal a certain product or service.

Someone is always taking a good idea and either expanding on it, making it better, or both. Enter Facebook.com, the new avenue of social networking and ways to connect with not only friends, but also potential clients and customers. The reality here is that facebook can generate a lot of traffic to your website if done properly, and as of late, it is one of the largest SN sites on the World Wide Web today. To discover the social and viral aspects of these popular networking websites is almost like discovering Gold.

Your first step as stated above, would be to set up an account and create a profile. With face book, there are many options and other related ad-on features and applications that one can use to their advantage. But one critical source of shameless advertising is the joining of Groups related to your niche or topic. Here you can post your business on “The Wall,” or in other applications of a certain Group. But be certain not to get spammy. By over doing it, you can and will get your account suspended!
