Formal credentials in teaching are a definite asset in this business, but not a necessity. The ability to teach a topic or skill that others are eager to learn is a definite requirement that will build your tutoring business as time and experience come into play. You will also need to build a reputation based on a friendly and patient disposition, and build your students confidence with a kind and devoted demeanour. If you want to gain some tutoring job experience, or practice your abilities to teach before taking on students in your home, you may be able to do so at your local school board or community centre.

There are also online tutoring positions available for teachers to work for companies via the Internet. This new age of tutoring job enhancement may be more prone to credential laden individuals, but allows more flexibility for people who want to teach and make money, part time/ full time from a home-based PC. This is a great option for people who live in an apartment, or younger people who still live at home with their parents. Online tutoring can also break down the boundary of just dealing with localized clientele.
