Internet/Insider Web Marketing For Dummies Book Review

Internet/Insider

Web Marketing For Dummies: By Jan Zimmerman

A new hardcopy book has emerged this year called Web Marketing For Dummies that is part of the Dummies series, for Informational type literature. I had just finished browsing/reading this book and now want to give you my short, but honest opinion. Rest assured that this will be a brutally honest evaluation, as I receive no commission, obviously, as you can buy or order it at most any book store.

A trip to Chapters last week resulted in a bit of disappointment. It wasn’t the fact that I came away empty handed, but it was however, the lack of choice and quantity I found in a rather large book store on the subject of Website Marketing. I am not blaming the store or it’s inventory, but compared to the online world and ebooks, the offline choice seems miniscule. I mean, take a look at the online world… Hundreds of ebooks for practically every topic related to making money or online marketing. It can make ones head spin.

Chapters has a nice setting where anyone can go in, choose a book and relax while browsing it. No hassles. To tell the truth, I was looking for something a bit more exciting, than Web Marketing For Dummies, (maybe the title was a bit off) but after indulging some time, I found it to be quite refreshing.

The refreshing part came from being able to just sit down with a book, take it to a comfortable chair, and relax. Spending time reading eBooks online, or on adobe, just doesn’t always make the nut these days, especially when your eyes turn buggy after 8 hours staring at a Monitor. And this is what made this information so popular with me! But this was not the only reason, and should not be construed as such.

This is a good book, and the price is right. Many bookstores from time to time offer the Dummies series for a special discount, which, for me, made it $22.25 CAD. At 32% off. A deal in my books. However doing a book report and trying to relay to you the reader, all the aspects and pertinent knowledge contained in this book would take several pages of my opinionated advice. This is mainly because of the extensive detail and extensive offerings a 388-page book can contain. So going into even moderate detail on every chapter related to this book, I feel would be pointless.

Web Marketing For Dummies does however, provide a good foundation for learning how to market online. Whether one chooses to run an online store, (there is tons of information on that,) or anyone wanting to market an Affiliate Program, you will not be left uneducated! Without a doubt, most anyone from experienced, to novice will find use for this reading material. The topics range anywhere from link building strategies, to Website Design and maintenance, and are packed with examples and even references to Sites providing top quality tools, and resources.

One gripe I have about this book would be its repeated reference to hiring a Website developer to design, build, and maintain your Site. Come-on now! With the advent of modern day Website development software and hosting, most any fool can build their own Website, and have total control for updating it, without, spending huge amounts of money on a developer! These days, even a shopping cart or checkout can be easily managed by the novice Web Publisher, and is offered by most hosting companies. Either way, building a Site on your own, or interacting on a constant basis with a Developer will take time and effort.

Summary: Web Marketing For Dummies is a great book that I would highly recommend to anyone trying to find his or her way in the now overpopulated World of Online Marketing and promotion. This is not only a Book For Newbies, but also a great handbook or so called encyclopedia for anyone experienced, as well. If used properly, there is no doubt that these techniques produce results.

Special Note: The Information in the book is a well-versed and easy to understand process, and covers many basic topics I have discussed, and included in my Internet/Insider Marketing project! Such topics include but are not limited to; PPC advertising and link building techniques!
