Working On The Home Or Property

There are special advantages to working at home and being on hand or available. Working on the home or property when a problem arises is a great benefit indeed, and sometimes all it takes is a bit of initiative and willingness to learn. Sometimes, even by trial and error, we can take care of minor catastrophes that happen on our properties in and around the house. I have written about work at home advantages in the past, but something happened the other day that really put my lifestyle choice into perspective.

It is not a question of if something is going to happen; it is more of a question of when. We all know that nothing lasts forever, especially products made to do so in point. Eaves troughs are a good case in point and one of the many things that property owners including myself sometimes neglect, but at some point in time have to deal with. And it is not the routine eaves trough spring-cleaning of debris that made me aware of my home-based position, but rather more in relation of a separation of eaves from the house in a high wind situation, and prior to a rainstorm.

There was a great amount of banging, smashing and clattering of some type of object bludgeoning against my home on a Friday afternoon just after lunch. April can be a vicious time of year for rainy weather and violent windstorms. But after some investigation and worry, the real fiend behind all of my frustrated concern was nothing but a loose eaves trough come separated from adjacent the roof. It was a good thing; no… excellent I was there to discover it, as we had just replaced a new window underneath its palsy swing motion. I was there to implement a working on the home course of action, and take care of what may have become a nasty situation.

Being a home worker is a work at home advantage. Having the extra time away from the daily commute not only saves money in that respect, but also allows one to become handy around the house and take care of special problems that may pose a hazard and have expensive repercussions. I also find that making a checklist of things to do associated with working on the home and property works great. And when I need a break from working with the computer online or off, it is a great way to break the mindset of home office doldrums.

One more point that I would like to mention here, is the availability issue many of us home workers get to enjoy. If you have children you will specifically know what I am talking about. Both my kids are in school, or should be most of the time, but when one becomes ill, I like to be at home for them. Especially the younger daughter who needs the comfort and meal making attention. Also, many people talk about the 9 to 5 job, when many jobs I have suffered through are 8 to 4, and usually in reality 7 to 5, weighing naturally on the commute.

I could not imagine my 9-year-old child making her own breakfast, preparing a lunch, and getting off to the bus by herself without supervision. In a world in which both parents have to work to get by, making ends meet is sometimes a necessity. This is the advantage I guess I am smugly unaware of as time progresses on. Small business or home business owners know that they have a special career when it comes to taking care of the home, family, or property.

Things I find easy to do or learn working on the home: Eaves trough repair, window sealing and caulking, door handle replacement, painting, dry walling, minor plumbing and electrical, water filter replacement, and grass cutting just to name a few. All are easy jobs to do and learn, which if done yourself, can save thousands of dollars annually.
